Iron Horse Registration is $5 per person. Each registered particpant receives an official Iron Horse Trail Map with 15 questions on it, an official Iron Horse Patch, and other stuff. Trails range from 0.9 miles to 4.2 miles. The answers to the questions are found along the trails of Potato Creek. Iron Horse Trail Medals are available for purchase at the end of the trail for $4. $4 is a real bargain in Scouts.

2008 - NEW - Geocaching the Iron Horse

Geocaching is a new exciting outdoor sport. Geocaching combines traditional map reading skills with state of the art navigation using handheld GPS units. Its a high tech treasure hunt. Special "caches" will be placed in the park. The challenge is for you to find them!

Tiger Cub Fun Day is at Orchard Shelter West. Tiger Cub Fun Day runs from approximately 10am to 2pm on Saturday, Oct 18th. Tiger Cub Fun Day is FREE! Any tiger scouts and their families are also welcome hike the trails of Potato Creek. If you want to participate in the rest of the Iron Horse activites, register and pay using the form above.

51st Annual 2008 Jamboree On The Air Information

The 51st Annual Jamboree On The Air is held on the same weekend as the Iron Horse. Talk to Scouts from all over the world right here from Potato Creek State Park. Ham radio operators will have equipment set up all day at the Iron Horse. Click for the National or International Website for JOTA. JOTA Patches will be available for purchase. Cost is $5 per patch.

All scouting groups are welcome to camp at Potato Creek for either Friday or Saturday night. Please make your camping reservations directly with the DNR Camp Reservation System at the following phone number: 1-866-622-6746 or on the DNR Reservation Website. Your unit should still file a local tour permit with LaSalle Council. Click for Camping Details for the various camping areas in the park and how much they cost.

2008 Iron Horse Staff Information

IH Staff Patch


Be at the Potato Creek Beach House by 7:30am (local time) Saturday Morning in full Class A Uniform with your O/A Sash. A free continental breakfast and lunch will be served for those on staff. Staff will receive a free IH Staff Patch You will also receive a IH Trail Medal and IH Patch at the end of the day. Download the staff flyer for info on how this works. The experience ends around 3:00pm (local time). Staff opportunities include greeters at the gate, parking, registration, trail crew, trading post, JOTA, cooking and concessions.
